Welcome to Positive Feedback!

It’s called positive feedback in hopes that we create a positive feedback loop where the more knowledge we share, the faster we learn. Plus I like to keep things fun and cheerful 🙂

Unity and positive vibes only

This project was born out of confusing lectures given by brilliant professors who have forgotten what it’s like to be in the shoes of a student. Things that are trivial to them are absolutely novel to us. As a consequence, explanations in college tend to value rigor and completeness above simplicity, and mathematical analysis above intuition. Through years of practice I’ve found myself finally understanding concepts I was taught years ago. How (or why?) does an op-amp work? Why can’t we apply Ohm’s law to every situation? How do electromagnetic waves propagate? In the process of learning, I’ve had to come up with explanations an idiot could understand (it’s me, hi, I’m the idiot, it’s me). The purpose of many blog posts will be to give concise, intuitive explanations that I wish someone told me when I was first learning. Silly but illustrative analogies will be used with reckless abandon.

“Lehr und Kunst” — theory and practice — was the motto of my alma mater. This blog will cover both. Some posts will cover fundamental theory; others will cover practical design issues or evaluate different parts. You need practice to have context for and ultimately apply the theory, and you need theory to understand how to precisely design and fix issues in practice.

Head to the blog for some semi-coherent ramblings, or head to the About Me and Resume pages to learn more about the less-than-semi-coherent author of this site. Happy building, and don’t shock yourself!
